Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!

Yvonne Lehman
My Christmas pictures were taken last year. I've recently decorated for Christmas but haven't taken pictures yet. The one below is from last year. By the way, I'm having a book signing at PowerHouse Perks in Black Mountain December 8, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. followed by my Writers Group meeting. If anyone's in the area, would love for you to stop in at PowerHouse Perks.

You may have $15 off tuition for any announcement about the conference in a newspaper or on radio, up to $45. As usual, we will have agents, editors, professional authors and speakers for beginning and published writers.

Cecil B. Murphey Foundation Gives 10 Scholarships

Cec MurpheyAgain this year Cec Murphey has asked CWFI to oversee the granting of scholarship for BRMCWC. Last year he sponsored 8 writers. This year he will sponsor 10. All room, board and tuition costs will be paid by the Cecil B. Murphey Foundation. Winners are responsible only for travel costs to and from the conference. These scholarships are open to anyone who writers. If you have writer-friends who are not member of the CWFI Family, but who would benefit from this opportunity, please pass along information to them or send them to the CWFI home page: www.cwfi-online.org. You will find instruction on the CWFI website.

The Blue Ridge Conference has grown considerably in the past seven years. Although many fine faculty members have offered their expert advice and suggestions throughout the years, I have now officially enlisted an assistant, Alton Gansky. He has come up with a blog that focus on the conference: www.blueridgeconference.com.

April 14-18, 2008 - GIDEON Opportunities

A media arts conference and film festival where art and purpose meet: This is sponsored by my daughter and her husband, Lori and Rodney Marett. They are offering fantastic opportunities for those interested in the media arts to learn from top Christian TV & film producers and drama teachers. Many opportunities are for writers: "HOW TO WRITE FOR BRAND PUBLISHING" and "CREATING A PICTURE BOOK LAYOUT." For screenwriters: "SCENE WORKSHOP." That is only a small sampling of what will go on at this fantastic festival. We're also having an "open-to-the-public" autographing session for 20 of the best-selling, award-winning authors. For other opportunities and information see web site: www.lifeway.com/gideonmediaarts

October 5-9, 2008 — Blue Ridge "Autumn in the Mountains" Novel Retreat

Our first one was held in 2008 and the results were so beneficial and enjoyable, we're having another in 2008. This is limited to a small group. Fifty attended this year, making it a wonderful intimate, personal retreat. Mornings were filled with expert teaching. Afternoons were for writing. Late afternoons writers could attend Discussion/Brainstorming Groups. After supper, students gathered in small Faculty/Student Critique Group in one's particular interest or novel category. The requirements for attendance are that you have attended a writers conference "somewhere" and have a novel in progress. Information will be on the Blue Ridge Conference web site and also on www.lifeway.com/novel retreat when plans are finalized. Same discounts on tuition apply as with the Blue Ridge Conference.
