Blue Ridge Mountains
Christian Writers Conference
May 20-24, 2007 |
|
The conference has grown from 180 to 410 attendees in six years, which speaks well for what’s going on with us. Our growth has prompted us to begin an additional “advanced” retreat to meet the needs of our students.
Check out our web site: www.lifeway.com/christianwriters to see our fantastic lineup of the nation’s finest faculty to be found anywhere. For May 20-24, 2007 we are offering several NEW-THIS-YEAR features in addition to our usual classes for all writers—aspiring, beginning, intermediate, and/or advanced.
Any ten who register as a group (such as: ACFW, TWV, FHL, AWSA, CWG, local writers group, friends, etc. may have $10 each off tuition. So, be creative and register as a group of ten!
CEC MURPHEY’S SCHOLARSHIP FUND
My dear friend and wonderful writer/co-writer of over 100 books has graciously offered to give four scholarships to the Blue Ridge conference. Write 500 words telling why you want to attend. Mail your entry to: CWFI, 1624 Jefferson Davis Road, Clinton, SC 29325. Deadline is February 24.

- Blue Ridge “Autumn in the Mountains” Novel Retreat—October 7-11, 2007
This is for writers who have attended a writers conference “somewhere” and have a novel in progress. You may be asked to submit material weeks before the conference begins and will work on your novel while at the retreat. Details should be on the "Lifeway/Blue Ridge" web sites soon.
- Gideon MACaFF is a “first” Media Arts Conference and Film Festival to be held April 15-19, 2008 at LifeWay/Ridgecrest. If you’re interested in learning more about film, TV, radio, and pitching a novel to a producer, keep this in mind. Information should be available on the Blue Ridge web site and Gideon site in the near future.
WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH ME!
I’m thrilled that Heartsong readers voted Moving the Mountain as their #8 favorite historical in 2006. Here’s a short blurb of what it’s about.
|
Molly has come home.
After leaving the mountains of her childhood, widow Molly Pierpoint returns to help raise the children of her dead sister. She longs to enrich their lives, but how can a citified woman learn to make do in the wilds of Kentucky?
Jonas McLean lost his heart when he lost his wife. Now, her sister Molly has come at his request—a request he didn’t want to make. His daughter loathes the woman, while his son thinks she’s his mama. And Jonas—well, he’s not exactly sure how he feels about the spirited widow.
Can grief extinguish their mustard-seed faith and crush their wounded hearts? Or will they allow their love for God—and each other—to move mountains of fear and pain? |
I’m also thrilled that another Heartsong, By Love Acquitted, is scheduled for release in May 2007, and A Bride Idea in September.
A collection, Carolina Carpenter Brides (Barbour), which includes my novella, "Caught Red-handed," is scheduled for release in June. Other authors in the collection are Janet Benrey, Ron Benrey and Lena Dooley.
A novel collection, Kentucky Brides (Fall, 2007) will include Moving the Mountain.
I am now a mentor for the Christian Writers Guild. Check out the website at www.christianwritersguild.com.
